MUSIC NEWS: Alan Cumming
by SPIRIT spirit@outtonight.mobi
Devilishly sexy (and sexily devilish) Alan Cumming has been around so long in theatre circles ( Threepenny Opera, Cabaret), cult film communities ( Reefer Madness, Eyes Wide Shut), and even mainstream heterofests ( X-Men 2, GoldenEye) that it seems nearly impossible that he hasn't been preserved on his own solo music disc. While he appears on the Reefer and Cabaret recordings and the odd tribute/compilation collection, he had yet to go the full Idina, or the complete LuPone. Until now. I Bought a Blue Car Today is a studio...

MUSIC NEWS: A Tori Amos Christmas
by SPIRIT spirit@outtonight.mobi
If you've been hankering to put a Tori Amos winter-themed album next to your Aimee Mann, Jewel, and Sarah McLachlan X-Mas CDs, you are in luck. Amos has confirmed that her next album is a solstice-centric collection. We're told to expect "strings, brass, tubular bells and harpsichord." Works for me, and thank your respective gods that she's not doing yet another damn version of "Silent Night." Although we may get another of Joni's "River." But Tori does that one proud live. If we're placing bets, I suspect a ...

As for the source, I'm gonna go with Liz Rosenberg as my guess.

MUSIC NEWS: Madonna's Celebration
by SPIRIT spirit@outtonight.mobi
Matthew Rettenmund and DrownedMadonna posted word about the tracklisting for Madonna's 3rd best-of (and 5th compilation total) that's due in September. There are no surprises as to what made it on--in fact, it's one of the most legitimate lists ever in terms of "does this count as a hit?" status. What's something of a surprise is that a solid chunk of Madonna's best material is ignored. True fact: The Immaculate Collection and GHv2 already exist to cover much of the material that is again being released for this 2-CD set. But ...

NEWS: Bea Arthur Dies
by SPIRIT spirit@outtonight.mobi
Fabulous comedienne Bea Arthur (center, standing) died on April 25th at the age of 86. Bea contributed to the television world, providing literate and deadpan readings on three series, and was also an acclaimed theatrical actress. THE GOLDEN GIRLSLikely her greatest legacy, Bea played Dorthy Zbornak, a divorced substitute school teacher who lived in Miami with two roommates (one lusty, one naive) and her mother. She had a dry wit that was all Bea Arthur; Bea was always the first to credit the writers of the show, but it was trademark delivery that made the dialogue classic. ...

Estelle Getty (center, sitting), who will forever be remembered as the sharp wit Sophia Petrillo in The Golden Girls died today at age 84 of natural causes. She suffered with dementia for the last several years of her life. Before The Golden Girls (for which she won an Emmy), she appeared alongside Harvey Fierstein on stage in Torch Song Trilogy. Following The Golden Girls she continued the role in 4 further series The Golden Palace (starring), Empty Nest (recurring), and Sisters and Blossom (guest appearances). MUSIC NEWS: It's Britney, Bitch
by SPIRIT spirit@outtonight.mobi
It's been a big week for Britney fans. Several HQ tracks have popped up all over the blogs. The first, "Gimme More" has been making it's rounds with a robotic Ms. Spears moaning affirmation: "It's Britney, bitch." Touche. The more hypnotic, more interesting "Your..." (which has also been circulating as "Your Heaven") is actually a smart direction in the vein of Kylie Minogue. If this isn't on the new album expected this fall, I hope at least something like it is. The Pussycat Dolls-style rejects "Cold As Fire" (yuck) and "Everybody" (which awkwardly samples "Sweet Dreams" b...
