This was especially jarring considering the Free Bitch said she was as much (without editing) during "Bad Romance" in its respective single and video formats. Furthermore, there seemed to be an effect blocking the word "fucked" on the song "Monster," but since that's the harsher word of two, maybe not so unusual if the leaked copy was the censored-for-WalMart variety.
Well, turns out if you were troubled by the censors, you bought the album expecting it to all be GaGa in her divine vulgar glory. And you were SOL.
Fans are already complaining that not only were "Dance in the Dark" and "Monster" censored but so was the album version of "Bad Romance," which wasn't even bleeped on the single! We're hearing that it's a pressing mistake and that we'll get the uncensored eventually. No word on what format (digital, physical), if the next pressing will have the originals restored, or even when it'll all happen. It's on the head of the retailers to determine if they're giving refunds or choosing to comment on their product details that their copies have been red-penned. Nearly every review on Amazon however makes note the editing.
Why is this such a big deal? We went through 2 P!nk albums in the earlier 00's without an uncensored alternative (songs like "18 Wheeler" and "Can't Take Me Home" each say "fuck" about 12 times each, but distorted or cut for the final masters), and Rihanna just had an album that cut the words "asses" ("Breaking Dishes") and "shit" ("Disturbia") without much fanfare or reprisal. Perhaps it's just that the edit on "Romance" and "Dark" is just so BAD... I mean, "bit," seriously? They couldn't have reversed the actual word if it was a problem? It's just so prominent.
Worth mentioning that "Teeth" also on The Fame Monster says "shit" in full (not "ish" or something like that), but the vocal is buried in the mix and either could have gone unheard or given a pass.
